Candle Care Guide — How to Burn Sculptural & Scented Candles Properly
Candle Care for Sculptural & Scented Candles
Creating calm through candlelight begins with caring for your candle intentionally.
Whether you’re enjoying a Sculptural Soy Candle or a Vaso Scented Candle, proper candle care supports a cleaner burn, longer-lasting fragrance and a more beautiful candle experience overall.
Because our candles are hand-poured using natural wax blends, subtle changes in texture, wax movement and transformation are part of their beauty.
Below you’ll find candle care tips designed to help you safely enjoy your Sculptedwax ritual.
Candle Care for Sculptural Candles
Before Lighting Your Candle
Always place your sculptural candle on a stable, heat-safe dish or candle plate large enough to collect melted wax.
Because sculptural candles are designed to soften and transform as they burn, natural wax movement and dripping are part of the experience.
How Long Should You Burn Sculptural Candles?
Unlike traditional jar candles, sculptural candles are designed to melt, soften and evolve as they burn. As the flame moves through the wax, each piece gradually transforms into a unique sculptural form of its own.
For best results, burn sculptural candles for 1–2 hours at a time and allow the wax to evolve gradually.
Every candle will burn differently depending on shape, airflow and environment.
Candle Safety
Always burn candles in a draft-free environment away from flammable objects, children and pets.
Never leave a burning candle unattended and always extinguish candles before leaving your home or going to sleep.
Trimming Your Wick
Trim your wick to approximately 5mm before each burn.
Regular wick trimming helps support a cleaner flame, reduces soot and encourages a slower, more even burn.
Avoid trimming the wick too short, as the flame may struggle to remain lit.
Storing Your Candles
Natural wax candles are sensitive to heat and direct sunlight.
Store candles in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and fluorescent lighting to help preserve their colour, fragrance and finish over time.
Please note that fragrances containing vanillin may naturally develop a slight creamy or yellow tone over time — this is completely normal and does not affect candle performance.
Styling Recommendation
If you’re purchasing sculptural candles primarily for styling or gifting, we recommend choosing the unscented option.
Unscented sculptural candles tend to maintain their creamy finish and appearance beautifully over time.
Caring for Vaso Scented Candles
Why Is the First Burn Important?
The first burn helps create an even melt pool across the surface of the candle and reduces the chance of tunnelling.
For best results, allow the wax to melt close to the edges of the vessel during your first burn.
How Often Should I Trim My Candle Wick?
Trim your wick to approximately 5mm before each burn.
This supports a cleaner flame, improves fragrance performance and helps your candle burn more evenly over time.
How Long Should I Burn My Candle?
For best results, burn your Vaso scented candle for approximately 2–4 hours at a time.
During your very first burn, allow the melted wax to reach close to the edges of the glass before extinguishing the flame. This helps create an even melt pool and supports cleaner, more consistent burns moving forward.
Natural wax candles develop what’s commonly referred to as “candle memory,” meaning the wax will often continue to burn according to the pattern created during the first burn.
Proper first burns can help reduce tunnelling, improve fragrance performance and support the longevity of your candle over time.
You can learn more about Candle Memory and how it affects your candle.
Choosing the Right Candle Location
Place candles on a stable, heat-safe surface away from drafts, direct sunlight and heat sources.
A calm environment supports a cleaner, more even burn.
Avoid Burning Candles to the Bottom
For safety reasons, discontinue use once approximately 1cm of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel.
This helps prevent overheating and protects surrounding surfaces.
Recycling & Reusing Your Candle Vessel
Once finished, your Vaso vessel can be cleaned and repurposed for storage, styling or everyday home organisation.
Reusing candle vessels is a simple way to support more intentional, lower-waste living.
Caring for your candle is part of the ritual itself.
With intentional burning and proper care, your Sculptedwax candle will burn more beautifully, last longer and continue creating calm, warmth and atmosphere within your space.
