Luxury Candle Care — How to Burn & Maintain Your Sculptedwax Candles

To experience your Sculptedwax candle at its best, proper care is essential. Each of our candles is hand-poured using natural wax, designed to burn cleanly and beautifully when treated with intention.

Whether you’ve chosen a Vaso ritual candle, a Sculptural art piece, or a minimalist pillar, these simple steps will help you maximise burn time, maintain shape and allow the wax to evolve as it was designed to.

Candle Care for Sculptural Art Candles

Before Lighting
Place Candle on a flat heat resistant dish or Candle plate big enough to collect any wax that may drip. This avoids the melted wax from dripping on to any furniture and causing damage.

First Burn
Unlike jar Candles, Sculptural Candles will drip. Every Candle will burn differently with different burn times. Never burn a Candle for more than 1-2hrs at a time.

Candle Safety
When lighting your Candles ensure a draft free environment, keep clear of any flammable objects/items. Keep away from pets or children and NEVER leave your candles unattended. Make sure to always put out candles before leaving your home or before sleeping.

Ongoing Use & Storage
Candles are sensitive to temperature and light. Fragrances with vanillin (vanilla) content may yellow if exposed to sunlight or fluorescent light, this is normal and does not affect the burning of the candle, only the aesthetic. When not in use store your candles in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.

Trimming your wick
Ensure you trim your wick BEFORE every use. Trim your wick to 5mm. Trimming will ensure your candle does not burn hotter than it should, and thus will prolong the life of your candle. Be sure not to cut it too short or it will become engulfed by wax.

Trim the Wick Regularly

One of the most important candle care tips is to keep the wick trimmed. A trimmed wick (about 5mm long) helps maintain a clean and even burn. This reduces soot, prevents excessive flickering, and enhances the candle’s fragrance throw. Regular trimming will extend the life of your candle, allowing for a longer-lasting and more enjoyable experience.

Burn Candles for Prolonged Periods

To achieve a full melt pool and prevent tunneling, burn your candles for at least 3-4 hours. Wax has ‘memory’ so it will follow the first burn so make sure not to extinguish the candle until the majority of the surface has melted. Some wax may remain on the sides which will continue to melt down as you continue each burn.

Choose the Right Location

Position your candles in a safe and appropriate location. Keep them away from drafts, direct sunlight, and heat sources to ensure an even burn. Placing candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface can help prevent accidents and increase the candle's longevity.

Store Candles Properly

To maintain the quality of your eco-friendly candles, store them in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. Sunlight can cause the colors and scents to fade over time. Make sure to keep the lids on your candles, if applicable, to prevent dust from settling on the wax and maintain their freshness.

Avoid Burning Candles to the Bottom

For safety reasons, don’t burn candles down to the bottom. It’s safer to extinguish the candle when there’s about 1/4 inch of wax left. This minimizes the risk of overheating or damaging the surface it's placed on. If you find you have leftover wax, consider repurposing it to create a wax melt or a new candle.

Recycling and Upcycling

When your candles have burned down, consider repurposing the containers. We use beautiful containers that can be reused for storage or as decorative pieces. This not only adds to your sustainability efforts but also helps reduce waste.
