There’s something about becoming a mum that makes you see your own mother differently.

I grew up watching my mum do everything, working full-time and raising two kids at the same time. Cooking. Cleaning. Holding the house together. Showing up even when she was exhausted.

She didn’t call it resilience. She just called it life. And I didn’t realise how much of her strength I was carrying until I became a mother myself.

Culture Lives in the Small Things. Being Filipino and Italian meant our home was full of scent. Food cooking, windows open, fresh linen drying, family coming in and out.

There was warmth.

There was noise.

There was depth.

 

Now when I blend fragrances, I don’t think in trends. I think in feelings.

Every scent holds a piece of where I came from.

 

When I Became a Mum After having my first daughter during COVID lockdowns, everything changed. We couldn’t see family. We couldn’t see friends. I was exhausted. Sleep deprived. Trying to figure out who I was in this new version of myself.

And in that quiet, heavy season… I realised something.

I needed something that was mine.

Not just “mum.”

Not just survival mode.

But something that helped me feel like me again.

That’s where candle making began.

Slow pouring.

Blending scents.

Watching wax melt and set.

Lighting a wick and sitting in stillness for five minutes before the next cry.

It became a ritual.

A small reset.

A reminder that I still had light in me.
